    Introduction
A pump uses electrical energy and converts it into hydraulic energy, to move a fluid forward. In a pumping station, pumps are found to be consuming around 95-97% of the total energy, remaining energy being used by the auxiliary equipments. It becomes essential to monitor their performance as any inefficiency in the machine is reflected in terms of excess power consumption and reduced flow / head.
